I’ve had the privilege of serving Captiva Chapel by the Sea in various roles over the past 19 years. My journey began in Romania, where I once ran a company with 500 employees before escaping a communist regime in search of a better life. Just three days after arriving in the United States, I began working as a day laborer, sweeping floors—grateful for every opportunity that followed.

Over time, I advanced into management with Joy Manufacturing, traveling across the U.S. and around the world to help improve the production of mining equipment. Like many immigrants, I also invested in rental properties and operated a motel along the way.

With a background in mechanical engineering, my first role at the Chapel was caring for the land and buildings. I later served as Treasurer and have remained deeply involved in the Chapel’s upkeep and mission.

One of my proudest contributions is founding The Crew—a volunteer group dedicated to the care and repair of subsidized housing for CHR of Sanibel. What began with just one fellow volunteer has now grown to a team of 14 committed individuals. My favorite thing about Chapel by the Sea is its inclusiveness. At the Chapel your status in life nor the money that you possess does not matter. Everyone volunteers to their ability and determination to make the Chapel a very special place
