Reverend Doctor Douglas Dortch, Jr. is a Baptist minister and a distinguished student of the ministry, culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Preaching. He was raised in a small town in Alabama and received his undergraduate education at University of Montevallo, Alabama. Dr. Dortch’s master’s degree in theology was also attained through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky.

Doug is married to Judy and has two grown children; a daughter who is a teacher and a son, who is a general surgeon. Doug and Judy as well as their children live in northern Florida. Judy had a career in nursing and then as a mother, homemaker and active volunteer. Doug’s long-term pastorates are most recently as Senior Minister at Mountain Brook Baptist Church in suburban Birmingham, Alabama. (2011 to 2023).

His prior work was as Senior Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. (1994-2011) Reverend Dortch has been involved with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship since the mid-1990’s. His service in that organization began as a representative in Florida, through an education ministry group and as a Moderator on the governing board.

After his retirement from Mountain Brook Baptist, he moved to Santa Rosa Beach in Florida’s panhandle and accepted the offer of a three-year leadership position as Pastor of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea. Six months of each year, he and Judy have resided as citizens of Captiva Island in the parsonage on the grounds of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea.

When not working, Doug is a golfer; Judy is an enthusiastic artist.
