The Passing of Joan Eschert It is with great sadness that we share with our community that Joan Eschert, a long-standing, active member of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea, passed away on August 15th. From Reverend John Cedarleaf, "Joan was a special person, full of life, witty and wise and funny. She was a regular not only at worship but at our monthly porch parties. What a dear she was. Rest in peace and rise in glory!” Joan will be missed by all who knew her. View her obituary. |

The Passing of Reverend Tom Nyman Captiva Chapel by the Sea was led spiritually for 3 years by Tom, who was accompanied by his wife, Linda. The minister was a Lutheran pastor, a Harley motorcycle rider and an outgoing person who spread the message of the Chapel far and wide on our barrier island community. His legacy involves the deeper involvement of the Captiva Chapel in the local community. The Chapel family includes a Prayer Chain of 30 people who learned several years ago that Tom was facing health challenges and entering a period of hospice care. This Prayer Chain has been sustaining him for these years as he overcame many of the health issues and continued to live a life of spirit and love for his community near the Twin Cities. The energy with which he pursued his Pastoral career was infectious to all who encountered Tom. He will be remembered for that enthusiasm and his love of the Lord, his family, and his community.
