April 30th Service -A thunderstorm was raging much of the night. It damaged our tent for sun protection in the Chapel yard. But with 70 people showing up for our service due to weather concerns, we all fit inside the Chapel building.
Larry and Rosie performed a duet which they had done about 46 years ago, when they were engaged and Larry was serving a tiny church.
Lynne Dugan made the organ sing with familiar hymns. We closed with a hymn that is one of Andrea Miller’s favorites…she is a special spirit known to many regular Chapel-goers and daughter of our President Jake Miller and wife, Teresa.
April 23rd Service - It was a wonderful day! We had adorable bell-ringers, a beautiful Baptism, and blessings for our loving pets. For more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
April 16th Service - We were fortunate to have Becky Davis as our singer today. She is the daughter of long-time board member Nathalie Pyle. Reverend Marshall baptized a four month old baby girl whose parents were married on the island 11 years ago. We held the farewell party for Larry and Rosemary Marshall next door at the Captiva Civic Center. For more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
April 9th - Easter Sunday We had 250 worshippers for our Easter service. This was a good number for singing and the parking on the now-cleared roadways was manageable. Shade and a breeze were precious since the temperature has been in the mid-80’s most of the past two weeks. We had our newly-renovated floor uncovered and the painted pews screwed down, so it was our debut for inside Sunday services. For more Easter Service photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
April 2nd Service - Palm Sunday Although the reconstruction isn't quite finished (the pews aren't fully painted or fastened to the floor, and the floor is still covered), we re-dedicated our chapel at today's service. The organ was delivered and it sounded terrific! For more photos from the service, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
March 25th Service - Our reconstruction project continues with the painting of the pews. The organ will be returned in the coming days (Please check out our music schedule!) We should be inside in time for Easter Sunday. And thank you to our bell-ringer who visited us from New York City. For more about our reconstruction progress, click here.
March 19th Service - It was "Pantry Sunday" at Captiva Chapel by the Sea. We collected nonperishable food items for two of our Mission Partners: FISH of SanCap, and the South Fort Myers Food Pantry. A very special thank you goes out to our Mission Chair, Kathy Knoblauch. We were also visited by 2023-2026 Pastor Candidate Doug Dortch and his wife, Judy. And, the biggest news, Dixie Libonate took a nice nap during the service. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
March 12th Service - It was a beautiful day on Captiva! President of the board, Jake Miller, and his wife, Teresa, were our Greeters. A few young ladies (with great names!) from up North were our bell-ringers. Pastor Larry preached about the importance of water…renewing baptism was offered. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
March 5th Service - Worshippers enjoyed our "Write on the Floor" activity, leaving messages for future generations to uncover. Our greeters were Missy and Mark Calkin, and our bell ringers were four sweet kids from St. Paul, Minnesota. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
February 27th Service- The bell ringer was 3-year old Reverie from Tennessee. The Pastor's wife, Rosemary, offered Pastor Larry a choice of two baseball caps to protect his fair skin. Spring Training was part of his sermon on Spiritual Stamina. The service was done to the accompaniment of an Osprey - he ate his fish while tell others to "stay away!". February 12th Service- Our service included several members of the Pyle Family, and a very secure tent! Please note that we had some technical difficulties with our video service and sound. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
February 5th Service - Our service included much-needed prayers, shade, and, of course, cookies! To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
February 4th Service - The Chapel prepares a tent to provide shade for the worshippers. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
2023 Opening Service at the Chapel
After several months of strictly online services due to Hurricane Ian, on January 29th, Captiva Chapel by the Sea held its first in-person service. Because of the ongoing construction and repairs to the interior of the chapel, services were held outside.
The day was bright and warm, the friendships even warmer. Over 100 people attended, including many "regulars" among them. Former Chapel president, Susie Berg, and Jim were greeters. To see more photos, visit our 2023 Photo Album.
The service began with a youngster tugging on the bell’s rope. Rhys Reimenschneider did the honors. (His parents beamed.)
Lynne Dugan, music director, had her keyboard. The Chapel organ is in safety in Tampa while the Chapel floor is replaced. Pastor Larry's sermon revealed the wonders of our "blessings".
Many stayed to enjoy the after-service hospitality. Our tradition of throwing open the garage for drinks and goodies was craved by many displaced and rebuilding locals. Many “reunions” occurred through the morning. The “reunion” experience enhanced the spiritual one.
If you missed the service, please join us next Sunday, February 5th, in person at the Chapel, or visit our YouTube Channel.
